Do Your Event Right With The Penny Loafer

Located in Warrenville, The Penny Loafer offers event assistance for any and all functions. Aspiring to provide only the best customer service has made The Penny Loafer one of the companies in the area to use for events big and small. Owners Penny Hock and Darwin Rodgers took some time to answer our questions about The Penny Loafer.

What was the inspiration behind opening The Penny Loafer? How long have you been in business?

Penny: Darwin and I enjoy discovering new places to try but found that the primary attention is rarely put on service anymore. Compromised customer service definitely taints the experience and for us it usually means never going there again. We realized that this is a sentiment shared by many so after long discussions, we decided that the only real way to achieve the level of customer service we desire is to provide it. We both have a long history in hospitality and realized that if we put our knowledge and skills together we would have a really good concept. So we launched The Penny Loafer in June of 2017 with the concept of providing full Event Assistance for all types of events and discovered a niche. We became incorporated in October, 2017 and immediately started to expand our service offerings to include some light catering to tap into Darwin's baking expertise. Our brand is unique in that we offer a complimentary load of bread to all new clients as an offering of thanks and we guarantee our level of service as being the best in the industry, which is proven by our 5-star rating across the board.

​I read that you mostly focus on light catering, but how else would you describe the style of food you usually offer on your catering menus?

Penny: Catering is a new option for The Penny Loafer so as we work through the regulations for providing full service catering, we have limited our menu to light fare such as coffee, tea, brunch, and cocktail food service. We specialize in baked goods, soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, hors d'oeuvres, dessert, and gourmet coffee. It is our plan to expand this menu gradually to include lighter meals.

Your baked goods all sound so delicious! What is your personal favorite and why?

Darwin: Baking kitchen bread is my favorite because it comes from that loaf of bread my grandma used to make that you just can't find anywhere anymore. I have crafted the recipe so it is reminiscent of the smells in her kitchen and it is flexible enough that I can continue to experiment and come up with creations that are unique only to The Penny Loafer. I enjoy being creative the most and to be able to share it is very rewarding.

In your previous email you stated that at The Penny Loafer you are very community oriented. Can you explain how so?

Darwin and Penny: We feel it is important to not only support local businesses all around us, such as local farms who sell exceptional organic ingredients, but also to support the organizations in our own back yard that are doing good things. Being able to offer our service through community outreach extends our services to groups who may otherwise not have the funding to utilize services like ours. So being able to give back is a two-fold benefit; we get to provide high quality event services while participating in fundraising opportunities for them. As an example, we are presently volunteering our services to two local organizations for their annual fundraisers; a nonprofit music education organization and a division of the Illinois Parks and Recreation who provide exceptional education and recreation services to the disabled and challenged at no cost.
