Guenther Gallery And Design Helps The Arts Thrive In Itasca

By Paul Rowe

Guenther Gallery and Design in Itasca, Illinois is a family affair. Between Sandra Guenther's impressive background as a professional corporate interior designer, Eric Guenther's skills with painting and photography, and Bradlee Guenther's rich artistic background, Guenther Gallery and Design is the family art business that Itasca both needs and deserves.

Since 2005, Guenther Gallery and Design has provided corporate, residential, and municipal customers alike with a unique custom framing in Itasca, just west of O'Hare Airport near Chicago. Although there are many framers in the greater Chicago region, there are none quite like Guenther Gallery, a richly diverse art gallery catering to the needs of a broad range of clientele.

"Our artists come to us from all over and basically they find us," owner Sandy Guenther said. "Occasionally, we have a customer looking for a specific artist's work, which we are more than happy to locate for them."

Since the area surrounding Chicago is so vibrantly artistic, Guenther Gallery has thrived, and will continue to do so for years to come. The local art community in Itasca is filled with interesting, inspired, and diverse people with a plethora of exciting and innovative ideas to share with folks at Guenther Gallery. Over the years, Guenther has received thousands of framing requests, and sometimes they can be rather eccentric. It's never a dull moment in this business.

"We have framed many unusual things including a brick from the Old Chicago Stadium, a Thera bred racing saddle, a machete from central America, a home plate from the New York Yankees, signed Black Hawk hockey sticks, a commemorative shovel and hard hat for a building at O' Hare airport, Jerseys, and all sorts of memorabilia such as dolls, jewelry, and clothing," Guenther said. "We frame photographs, children's art, local artists, international artists, and works in different mediums."

Guenther Gallery often works with fabrics of all shapes and textures, specializing in stretching canvases of all sizes. Guenther received quilts and fabric prints from Europe, Africa, and South America on a regular basis. Additionally, the Gallery laces its own needle art, allowing for totally reversible fabrics without requiring an adhesive of any kind.

"Our restoration covers new and old photography. Cleaning repairing and finishing oil paintings of any age is a specialty," Guenther said. "The oldest oil painting we have refurbished was one of a couple from 1745."

All work at Guenther Gallery is performed with conservation grade materials. Guenther and her talented crew stand by their respectable belief that if a piece is worth framing, it is worth framing it the right way. Offering 2,000 frame samples of the finest wood available in the United States, Guenther Gallery also carries green frames made of bamboo, FSC wood, or recycled materials.

With this wide array of framing options comes an unpredictable work day. Luckily for customers in Itasca, Guenther is always prepared for anything.

"The atmosphere at the gallery can be tranquil or chaotic depending on the day and the projects we are working on," Guenther said.

Although true for many establishments in the greater Chicago region, at Guenther Gallery and Design there is never a dull moment. The workmanlike bustle of industry here is contagious, spreading its infectious artistic impulse to neighboring communities in and around Chicago.
