By Artur Stypula

Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer is an independent Home & Auto Insurance agency that uses technology to match our clients with the best possible coverage with a price that can save them money.

What is an example of typical/basic coverage for home insurance?

A basic home owners insurance policy will cover the value of the structure of your home, separate coverage for your personal belongings, and liability coverage we recommend minimum $300K liability limits, but its up to the customer. There is also additional living expenses coverage included that covers your needs if you can't live in your home for an extended amount of time.

When should a homeowner consider additional policies on top of their basic protection?

Water and Sewer back up of at least $10,000 or the value of your basement if your company offers higher limits. Higher medical payments, $10K is good and should cover most slips and falls. And of course if you have valuables, or collectibles such as Jewelry, Comic Books, memorabilia, and or guns.

How should homeowners decide what supplemental coverage that they need?

The best way is to discuss what they have using a checklist with their agent.

Can you briefly explain what flood insurance and earthquake insurance policies are?

Flood damage and Earthquake damage are excluded in standard homeowners policies. They are available for a substantial extra expense especially in flood prone or earthquake prone areas. In addition the deductibles work differently, rather then your typical $500 or $1,000 deductible these policies use percentages of your properties value. In low risk area this can be as low as 2% or even as high as 25% or more in high risk areas.

What does animal liability cover?

Animal liability is a term used typically for dog owners to protect them in the event their beloved family member bites someone. These can be purchased for almost any pet, but most common for dogs. Most Home carriers will cover dog bites under their liability clause, as long as the dogs are within their non-excluded list. (dogs typically excluded are : Rottweiler's, Doberman's, Pit Bull's, German Shepherds, and certain other large breeds)

What are two or three of the most popular supplemental policies for homeowners?

The most popular are of course the water back up coverage, collectibles, and the most important one is the Umbrella policy. Umbrella policy extend an additional layer of coverage (usually $1,000,000) on top of your existing Home and Auto coverage.
