Please describe a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

We are a full service moving and storage company providing long distance and local moving and storage services to consumers and businesses in Illinois, across the country, and around the world.

You seem to have a lot of useful tools on your website including neighborhood resources, moving tips, etc. Have you received positive feedback on the website thus far?

Consumers appreciate the user friendly move planning tools, resources, and guides on our website, www.graebelmoving.com. Most site visitors like how quick and easy it is to submit a request for a move estimate. Plus, as a full service mover, we attempt to help make each relocation as smooth and stress free as possible. By providing a large library of useful move guides, tips, and tools we can help our customers to effectively plan for their move. Plus, our move consultants will provide free value advice, along with a no cost accurate move cost estimate, when they conduct an in-home survey.

How did you get into this line of work?

Graebel was started by David Graebel in 1950 as a small Wisconsin moving company. Seeing the need for service-oriented company to serve the needs of corporations and relocating families moving throughout the country (and the world) Dave expanded the business globally ? with branch locations across the country and international capabilities outside of the US. Yet, with this significant expansion and vast service capabilities, Graebel have remained a privately held family owned business ? delivering personalizes service and care.

Do you believe that moving services are truly necessary for the average homeowner?

Absolutely. The average homeowner moves every 5-7 years, and over 10% of the population moves every year ? and moving is considered to be one of the most stressful life events. It helps to have proven moving professionals in your corner. It may be easy to move on your own when you live in a small apartment, but as you move into larger homes, and your family (and possessions) grows, a full service mover is well worth the cost. Plus a large percent of seniors relocate after retirement. A full service mover is the most effective and safest way to move a lifetime of possessions to a new state.

How early should a homeowner contacting a moving services company before the day of their move?

Most customers contact us 30-45 days prior to their move. On a local move, the mover can be contacted within a few weeks of the move. But when moving to a new state, or if the move is large and complex, it helps to have extra time for planning. Contacting a mover early, at least 30 days prior to your move, will help you to be aware of special preparation needs prior to the move, ensure mover and equipment availability, enable you to eliminate one big thing form your to-do list, and get an accurate price quote ? which will help to ensure there are no unnecessary surprises on move day.

What specific qualities should a customer look for in a qualified and reliable moving company?

First off, the customer should look for an AMSA certified ProMover. They should be an experienced mover with a local office and proven history in the market. Try and avoid movers who are not from the area, or do not provide price quotes over the phone. Be sure that you talk to a licensed mover who oversees all aspects of the move instead of a broker, who will ultimately not have control over the move day services. It is always important to do your homework ? check that the movers are on the Better Business Bureau, and move review sites (like Angie's List) to make sure they have a great service reputation. Lastly, always get an in-home move estimate ? it is the best way to get an accurate move cost and avoid move day surprises.

What are some common mistakes that homeowners make when hiring certain moving companies?

There are definitely a few things homeowners should try and avoid when making arrangements with a moving services company. All too often I see customers waiting to the last minute to contact the mover (this can be especially problematic in the busy summer season when many movers reach capacity and may not have service available). As mentioned before, attempt to contact the company 30-45 days prior to the move. Another common mistake is when consumers go with move brokers or unlicensed movers. It is very important to only deal with licensed movers who are also experienced in your type of move. Be sure to use a long distance experienced mover if you are moving to a new state. Other mistakes include relying on phone quote vs. getting an accurate in-home move cost estimate, attempting to pack valuable or fragile items on your own, or even using family or friends to move instead of hiring professionals. The professionals can eliminate stress and work- and ensure that your possessions arrive safe and intact.
