Just Breathe Yoga Feels Like A Home Away from Home

By Pamela Sosnowski

Pat Perrier wants everyone to feel like they're at home in her Crest Hill yoga studio, Just Breathe Yoga. One of the qualities that make her studio stand out is the personalized attention each yogi receives, no matter where they are in their yoga journey. The instructors like to know each student by name and get to know their goals.

"We aren't a 'cookie cutter' place," Perrier said. "We know our students and if we don't know you, we'll get to know you! We want you to have a good time in each class, to learn, and to grow. We nurture that in our students, and we look for those qualities in the teachers at our studio."

Just Breathe Yoga offers a variety of classes for all ages and abilities. There's even a "Yoga Your Way" class that is designed for both beginners and experienced students that allows for safe poses in a slower paced class. The "Yoga @ The Fields" class is held in a beautiful garden just west of the studio and only requires a mat and beach blanket.

"Our classes are for everybody: seniors, basic students, students who need adaptations, and students who want a more vigorous practice," Perrier said. "Teachers honor where each student is, they help the students get to where they want to be, and they make sure that each student knows that he or she is cared for and respected."

Private yoga sessions are also available which Perrier explains are often attractive to those recovering from an injury or wish to get the basics of yoga under their belt before joining a group class. Modifications are always made for those students that are limited from performing the traditional version of each pose.

Perrier was introduced to the benefits of yoga when she developed arthritis. She loved the improvements a beginner's class made to her pain and stiffness and eventually became a yoga instructor herself.

After years of teaching at Just Breathe Yoga and and assisting the former owner, she purchased the business, located at the corner of Weber and Caton Farm roads, next to the Menards in Crest Hill. She also continues her yoga education through advanced workshops, as do all of her instructors, who must complete a minimum of 200-hour certification and/or 500 hours from an accredited yoga teacher training program.

In addition to its regular class schedule, Just Breathe Yoga also hosts regular workshops that focus on yoga for specific areas of the body or new trends in the industry. Past workshops have included yoga for the back, yoga nidra (a relaxation practice) and even essential oil therapy for dogs, led by Perrier herself.

Whether one comes to Just Breathe Yoga for the classes or special events, Perrier says everyone will enjoy the atmosphere at her studio. "We welcome everyone, and make sure we give you a good experience," she said. "You'll want to come back because you'll not only feel good about doing yoga in the first place, but you'll know that you'll be able to progress and enjoy the process of growing into your yoga practice."
