Prana Yoga Center Introduces 'Transformational Power' of Yoga

By Kelly Church

Since 2002, Prana Yoga Center has brought top-trained yoga instructors with the desire to preserve yoga traditions to the Geneva, IL community. With a variety of classes available and unique yoga programs that combine different classes to achieve a specific goal, Prana Yoga Center makes it easy for members to experience the "transformational power of the practice of yoga."

"Prana Yoga Center?was born of the inspiration to create a center where students can practice authentic yoga, find a refuge from the challenges of life and find like-minded community to share the journey," founder, owner and instructor Lisa Bertke said. "Our mission is to offer quality, transformational yoga, meditation and other wellness programs that enable others to reach their full potential through vibrant health and ancient wisdom."

Bertke said at the heart of the Prana Yoga Center is the staff's dedication to supporting each student along their yoga journey. She described the facility as welcoming to all people, non-competitive, clean and friendly. Instructors are highly trained by what Bertke called "modern masters who are steeped in traditional lineage."

Classes at Prana Yoga Center include Vinyasa flow, hatha yoga, prenatal yoga, beginner's yoga and more. Stretching classes are also available. The studio also offers classes using infrared heat to kick up the intensity. Students can practice standard yoga in a hotter environment. There's also a yoga with weights class that is available heated and not heated.

"Prana Yoga Center installed a state-of-the-art infrared heating system, which is widely considered medical grade heat," Bertke said. "The benefits of infrared include: improved flexibility and circulation, pain relief, detoxification, relaxation and infrared heat is eco-friendly."

The yoga studio also offers programs for those who want to target specific goals using several different class types. Programs include Heal & restore Track H, Strength & Balance Track S and Wisdom Track W. These classes outline specific classes that the student should take to achieve their goal.

On the weekends, Prana Yoga Center hosts workshops for those who want to take their yoga practice to the next level. Workshops are slightly longer than regular classes, lasting around an hour and a half to two hours each for most workshops. There are a range of topics, including candlelight yoga, neck relief, daily habits and more.

Prana Yoga Center also believes that a fundamental element of yoga is Seva, meaning selfless service. To practice this in their own facility, the studio hosts nonprofit events throughout the year. These can include benefits for breast cancer awareness, the northern Illinois food bank and more.

"[As] those who live in abundance, we have a karmic obligation to serve others," Bertke said.

This year, Prana Yoga Center celebrates 15 years of service. A basic membership at the studio is $59 a month, and increases for those who want unlimited classes each month. A standard drop-in rate is $22 per class. To find out more about Prana Yoga Center, visit
