Revamp Your Workout with ForwardFit

By Marina I. Jokic

Getting on the right track when it comes to your health can be a major challenge for many people. At ForwardFit, instructors can work with each client to create a personalized fitness program that is comprehensive yet addresses individual physical concerns. In addition to their personal trainers, ForwardFit has an impressive array of cutting-edge fitness classes some of which include metabolic circuit training, boxing, TRX suspension, and high intensity interval training.

President and owner of the fitness club Bill Waltzek has been working in the field for years, acquiring his personal trainer certification in 2006. After being certified, Waltzek got a job at Xsport Fitness in Downers Grove where he learned about functional training. He continued his education by implementing strategies from companies like Athletes Performance, IHP, Art of Strength, Functional Movement Screens and many others.

Waltzek opened the first ForwardFit location in 2013 with the idea of inspiring people to take better care of themselves. Obviously, the best way to achieve this is through regular exercise. One crucial pitfall that Waltzek wanted to avoid was uninspiring and repetitive sequences that might sour some people on fitness altogether. He accomplished this by integrating fun, challenging, and different routines each time.

"I try to take the chore out of it for people that haven't had the interest in fitness in the past," Waltzek said. "So clients will be climbing ropes, jumping over and under objects, working on balance, explosive power, grip strength, aerobic capacity and more; we have even done spear throwing."

The sheer variety and unexpected twists of nearly all workouts at ForwardFit make the classes fun and engaging. "Never a dull moment" is Waltzek's modus operandi, helping him conceptualize offerings such as the O.C.R. (obstacle course race) training. That particular class plunges students into rapid and intense sequences of aerobic activity and prepares them for rigorous tests of their abilities that they might undertake later on. Nearly all students who have taken O.C.R. have dramatically improved their stamina, flexibility, and reflexes over time.

"From your first visit, you will see the energy and the positive atmosphere we have created," Waltzek said. "This culture is built on support and results, [and] we are very different from other gyms [since] we want to encourage a special place where you can be part of the ForwardFit family."

At ForwardFit, instructors strive for functionality and maximum caloric expenditure. The body can regain its natural state of being flexible and agile, assets that will pay out dividends for the rest of your life.
