The Yogi Within Makes Yoga Accessible To All, Via Virtual Classes and Traveling To Clients

By Pamela Sosnowski

If the yogi cannot go to the yoga studio, then the yoga studio can go to the yogi. If that yoga studio happens to be The Yogi Within, that is. The Naperville-based studio is unique in that it has traveled, both locally and out of state, to deliver the joys of yoga to all.

"As a traveling yoga studio, I truly want to be able to extend the benefits of the full aspect of Yoga to everyone, everywhere," says Rachel Grundner, the studio's owner. "I offer in person privates in the Western suburbs of Chicago, have led both public and private retreats in the Midwest and the picturesque desert-lands of Arizona (Sedona and Oro Valley), and have had private virtual clients on both coasts (Florida and California)." Private classes can also be taught virtually using Skype, making the practice truly accessible to everyone.

The Yogi Within's mission is to help clients realize their highest self, on a physical, mental, and emotional basis. The staff does this not just through yoga but also with guided meditation and spiritual guidance. The studio hosts online meditation series designed to help clients reduce stress and develop mindfulness throughout the day, and also specializes in yoga for new and expectant mothers.

Prenatal yoga is often recommended by OB/GYNs to improve sleep and increase the strength and flexibility of muscles used during childbirth. Mommy and Baby Yoga classes give new moms a chance to bond with their little ones while toning and stretching the body and reducing postpartum depression.

There's also the retreats hosted through the studio, which Grundner says is her favorite offering with The Yogi Within. Past trips have included a yoga and hiking adventure at the Sedona Mago Retreat Center and a retreat at Starved Rock State Park.

"There are key elements that I include in all of my retreats," says Grundner. "There's a morning practice of mouna (silence), incorporating and connecting with nature, reflective journaling, and yoga philosophy discussion. Of course, all retreats incorporate daily meditation and asana practices that are custom to the specific intention for the retreat. In public and small group retreats, one on one time is also scheduled with each teacher and student, so that the student can go home with a yoga sequence or recorded meditation made specifically for them."

For those that aspire to be more than a yoga student and teach it as a career, The Yogi Within provides yoga teaching training certification with classes that meet weekly on Saturdays from January through June. The course is run in partnership with Power Edge Yoga Fitness, a Yoga Alliance registered yoga school.

No matter a student's goals, The Yogi Within can help anyone reach their highest self. Says Grundner, "The Yogi Within was inspired by a desire to offer guidance to those beginning their journey inward. The goal has always been to make all aspects of yoga (from the physical practice to the meditative mindset and lifestyle) accessible to individuals who want a more intimate practice catered specifically to meet them in their current mental, physical, and spiritual circumstance."
